it may come as a surprise that the greater indianapolis area is home to several arts districts.  one of the more well known is the ‘mass ave’ arts area (see their home page) – which includes a wide variety of indie restaurant, retail and club establishments.  one of the oldest of these businesses is the ‘chatterbox jazz club’.  they’ve been open for almost thirty years and still pack the place on the weekends with great music and an eclectic, gritty yet classy, sophisticated but with a young edge vibe and and crowd.  my best friend and i were there saturday night to catch part of a show, chat with the staff and catch up.  we did not, however, eat any ‘patties of jamaica’.  too many of those back in the day, i guess.  more info on the chatterbox here – home page
